The driver information is up-to-date. To view all drivers for your Vostro 270s, go to Drivers and downloads. Realtek audio driver windows 10 dell free download - Audio Driver Realtek Ver.5.10.0.5273.zip, RealTek Audio Driver 5.10.0.5440.zip, Audio: Realtek ALC888 HD Audio Driver Version A00, and many.

This driver was released on July 10, 2017! I just installed this a while ago and it's much better than previous versions. It now has the 'Do not show this dialog again' checkbox on the popup that shows every time you insert something on the headphone jack and it works very well! The popup does not show anymore whenever I insert my earphones. Thanks, Dell! This was my only gripe on this laptop!

Here are the supported systems according to the site:

  • Inspiron 14 5468, 7460, 7467

  • Inspiron 15 5566, 7560, 7567

  • Vostro 14 5468, 15 5568

This package contains the Realtek High-Definition audio codec driver. It is supported on Dell Inspiron system that runs Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 operating systems. Audio driver is the software that helps your operating system to communicate effectively with audio devices such as sound cards and speakers. It seems that Realtek release a new Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for XPS 9570 on the 14 Feb 2019. Previously, the option for Realtek High Definition Audio Driver was not available for the Dell XPS 9570. May 28, 2019  This package contains the Realtek High-Definition audio codec driver. It is supported on Dell Inspiron system that runs Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 operating systems. Audio driver is the software that helps your operating system to communicate effectively with audio devices such as sound cards and speakers.

I don't know about XPS line but I think it will definitely have this update in the future!

Hi Bret. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.
1) Do you still have Dell Update in your Apps list to run to scan and supply all needed drivers, BIOS updates, etc? Sometimes it requires more than just the Sound driver if it's dependent on devices that have outdated drivers, too.
Otherwise Update your drivers from the Dell Downloads page here http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Produ... using the Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.
Everything else to try for sound problems is here:
2)For sound problems first try this checklist: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/402699...
3)Restore the Windows Audio Service which may have become disabled: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/57567-resto...
4) Right click Volume icon in System Tray, choose Sound Settings, from the Output and Input devices dropdown menus, choose then one(s) affected to see if that helps. If not use the Troubleshoot button nearby.
5) Run the Playing Sound troubleshooter at Start button > Settings>Update & Security>Troubleshoot.
6) Try rolling back the sound drivers in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Choose Sound controller and other audio devices, then Driver tab, then Roll back if available.
7) If no newer sound drivers then uninstall the one presently installed in Device Manager, reached by right clicking the Start Button. Restart PC to reinstall.
8) Try other and older drivers for your model Sound controller, too. For example, try the next oldest driver in the model's online Support Downloads list. To try all previous drivers installed on your system, in Device Manager choose Sound controller's Driver tab, then Update Driver, then Browse, then Let Me Pick.
9) If this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...
10) If this was caused by Version 1809 update (which you can confirm at Settings > System > About) then you can roll back Version 1809 in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...
11) You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...
12) Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...
Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.
13) If nothing else helps then run a Repair Install by installing the Media Creation Tool and choosing from it to Upgrade Now. This solves many problems and will also bring it up to the latest version which you need anyway and by the most stable method. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

but I get crackling when I turn on my audio and it doesn't recognize when I plug in headphones or my headset(or the microphone attached which has line-in)

What do you mean by the microphone has line-in. That is one of the options on the popup UI but not to be selected for a headset.

The crackling can be caused by the SmartByte update. Never install that update...

When the popup window shows up after you plug in your headset, what are you choosing for a device, headset or headphone or even earbud?

Hey Greg thanks for getting back to me so quickly, I went through your steps and ended up setting up Windows again (step 13). Currently my audio is working way better but it says that my Hd audio requires further installation and I believe is what is preventing me from my laptop registering a microphone. Any suggestions?

Have you run all Windows Updates?
Have you updated all of your drivers to latest from Dell Support Downloads web page here http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Produ... using the Dell Service tag from sticker on PC, or using Dell Update or Support Assistant apps in your Start menu?
Please run the Recording Sound troubleshooter at Start button > Settings>Update & Security>Troubleshoot.
Try these fixes next:
http://maxedtech.com/fix-microphone-not-working...
https://windowsreport.com/windows-10-wont-recog...
Some report that what worked is turning off Fast Startup at Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what Power buttons do > Change Settings Currently Unavailable > uncheck the box for Fast Startup, Save Settings. Restart and then disable Hibernate file to clear it, restart PC again and enable Hibernate again: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/enable-hiberna...
Right click the volume icon in System Tray at right end of task bar, open Recording Devices, see if the microphone is listed, set it as Default device.
Type Microphone in Start Search, open Set up Microphone, scroll down to Microphone and choose Get started to set it up.

I've updated everything and Dell says I have nothing left to update and gone through your steps but my driver still says 'Realtek Audio' and that it hasn't installed fully, really frustrated with this as I have looked everywhere for a solution but nothing seems to help

The designation of Realtek HD audio or Realtek Audio changed some time around the end of last year, Mine shows as yours.

In the events windows, you need to scroll down and highlight an entry to see what it means. The first 5 lines of your events shows the device installed. What I am wondering is what happened 6 hours later or in that 6 hour period on 11/30.

Is there both Realtek and Intel Sound/Audio Drivers on the Dell downloads site for your Service Tag? Check again. Install the latest.
Sometimes with the error for needing additional installation it requires installing the latest Display driver for it's audio component. So include that now in your search to download and install latest.
